Inspired Design Concept
Inspired Design is a concept that I feel to be extremely important when designing graphics. As an artist, I believe that it is crucial to get inspired by the surrounding world. I have never done a project where I have not drawn inspiration from other ideas or concepts.
What is “Inspired Design”?
Inspired Design is what makes Blake Lockard Design unique. These days, I find that many graphic artists have fallen into a corporate mindset. Sure, this career is hands down a corporate one, however, I strongly believe that it is important to always stay true to the values that make me, me. By letting my designs be inspired by the world around me, instead of being inspired by a lust for money, I feel that I am able to make a stronger visual connection between my clients, and my clients’ customers/fans/etc. Below are some of the things that inspire me.
Nature Inspired by Nature
As life progresses, I am coming closer to pinpointing the skills and traits that define me, not only as a graphic artist, but as a person in general. Something I've learned from being raised in one of the most beautiful places in the world is just how incredible nature is. Much of the art/design that I create is heavily inspired by nature. Whether it is incorporated through photography or on a concept found there, the natural world is what pushes my mind to new places.
Music Inspired by Music
I am blessed to live in a generation where the musical boundaries are non-existent. With a community like Soundcloud, I am able to find new music at almost any time of the day, anywhere in the world, created by just about anyone. If it weren't for music, life would be bland and colorless. I have tried creating graphics without listening to music, and that is exactly how they turn out. Therefore, music is one of the things that drives me as a graphic artist.
Skiing Inspired by Skiing
I started skiing when I was only two years old (thanks to my father) and it has been the love of my life ever since then. I have always wanted to be a professional skier, but the amount of stress that comes with competitions is a bit too much for me. So instead, I enjoy my weekends and days off in the winter by hitting the slopes, and improving my skills as a skier. Because the dreams of being a professional skier are very far fetched these days, I hope to design ski graphics for a world renowned ski company someday.
Friends Inspired by Friends
It is impossible to describe my friends in one word. They are the most influential musicians, artists, photographers, journalists, authors, graphic designers, skiers, skateboarders, transcendentalists, that the world has yet to meet. They continue to inspire me daily and push my work to new levels. All that I can say is, "brace yourselves, we are the next generation".
Instagram Inspired by Instagram
In the summer of 2012, I downloaded the application called "Instagram". At that point, I had no idea about where this app would take my life. Just six months after downloading the app, I found myself checking out some people's feeds who were actually doing graphic design right off of their phones. Through some questioning and exploring, I soon found out that there were tons of applications for my phone that would allow me to do graphic design right on my mobile device! Since last winter, I have been networking with the amazing photo editing community found on Instagram. I never knew how much this app would change my life, but it has honestly lead to so many opportunities that I can't even express just how much this app is a part of my life. I plan to give back to the community very soon, stay posted for more details regarding some exciting news.
